Configuration Fig. 7 If you measure the thickness of the blade in an area across the "teeth set", (Fig. 7) you will see that it is greater than the thickness of the metal band- stock that it was made from. In (Fig. 2) the blade was measured in an area where their were no teeth and the thickness of the blade was ten thousands of an inch (.010) . Now across the area of the teeth set the thickness is thirteen thousands of an inch (.013).
Fig. 8 The reason for the set is to create a "curf " that will be wider than the thickness of the metal band-stock material that was used to make the saw blade. The curf is the width of the area that has been cut out, referring back to our plow analogy, it would be the width of the furrow. (Fig. 8) Shows a thickness gauge in the curf revealing that it is thirteen thousands of an inch (.013). |
